Reading Accessories

To help you gain the feeling of living back in Victorian times, I have curated some of my collection of antique objects that I keep at hand when I am writing or reading. These treasures give me the feeling that I am actually there with the characters! Please take a look at my collection.

Maltese Crosses

$180 plus shipping

Ancient Maltese Crosses are smuggled in The Light Among Us. You can wear these I created as you escape into the cliffs of Cornwall. Fine silver and amethyst.

Friendship Books

$75 plus shipping

Friendship books are very small, 3’ x 4’ books with leather covers that were given as small gifts and tokens of friendship during the 1840s – 1890s. These little books were quite fashionable and often include poetry, which was a way the Victorians were able to express their sentiments without having to voice them.

Antique Button Jewelry

Copper Wrapped: $155 plus shipping

Fine Silver Wrapped: $185 plus shipping

Antique buttons, whether open work metal or painted porcelain, are tiny works of art that I think deserve to be held and worn. The metal buttons were worn on dress jackets, coats, and waistcoats. Women painted the porcelain buttons as a socially acceptable hobby. Imagine holding a button that is 150 years old and all the stories it could tell if only it could speak!

Lockets

Lockets range from $10-$120 dollars plus shipping

Lockets were a big part of Victorian life in that they could hold hair, flowers, messages, and photos after the 1850s. I have several here as examples and the larger silver ones are featured prominently in my second book, Illuminating Darwin, Arabella Buckley’s Story (in progress).

Bookmarks

Copper Bookmark Pendant: $75 plus shipping

Silver Bookmark Pendant: $150 plus shipping

I have designed a set of Victorian bookmarks that can double as a pendant in either copper or silver, adorned with buttons or gems. Bookmark pendants are approx. 3 inches.

Geodes

Elizabeth Carne surely would have loved these small, 1 inch geodes with gorgeous crystals inside. When I hold them, I think of Elizabeth and all that I have learned from her.

$10 plus shipping

Note Cards

Floriography was big in Victorian times- their version of emojis! Each flower was part of a code in a “Floriography Dictionary.” Flowers feature prominently in my books. Bluebells are plentiful in Cornwall in the spring…hence the blue bell note cards handpainted by an artist friend. Aren’t they lovely? Get one and send it to a friend for gratitude and everlasting love.
